Good outdoor clothing earns its reputation in the field.
Since 1994, Ridgeline has been making clothing for people who spend their working lives outdoors. Born in New Zealand, the brand began as a specialist outdoor clothing label before growing across Australasia and, eventually, further afield across Europe.
Made for life on the land.
That has always been the starting point. Practical outdoor clothing that performs when the weather turns, the ground gets rough and the working day runs long.
Where It Started
Ridgeline began life in New Zealand at the hands of Peter Maxwell. In mid-1993, Maxwell began working on the first Ridgeline designs, drawing on his previous experience manufacturing tough motorcycle and motocross clothing.
The first Ridgeline product range was successfully launched in the March/April 1994 issue of NZ Guns & Hunting magazine.
From the beginning, the idea was straightforward: outdoor clothing needed to be warm, comfortable, durable and able to handle rough treatment.
New Zealand provided a demanding testing ground. Wet weather, cold mornings, strong winds and rugged country are part of everyday life for many people working and spending time outdoors.
In those early years, Ridgeline quickly gained recognition among New Zealand hunters and the rural market. From there, the brand continued to grow, becoming a leading name in outdoor clothing across Australasia and later expanding into international markets.
Made for Life on the Land
There is a difference between clothing that looks suited to the outdoors and clothing that has earned its place there.
For more than 30 years, Ridgeline has focused on the latter.
The goal has remained straightforward: make outdoor clothing that works hard, lasts well and gives people the protection and freedom of movement they need when they're outside for hours at a time.
Rain, wind, cold, mud and rough country are part of the job. Good workwear needs to be ready for all of it.
And that's where Ridgeline has built its reputation.
Functional. Durable. Professional.
Clothing that really works, where you need it most — in the field.
Performance Earned in the Field
Ridgeline's approach to performance comes from experience.
A waterproof jacket needs to keep the rain out when you're standing in a paddock. Hard-wearing trousers need to cope with kneeling, climbing, walking and working. A warm layer needs to keep doing its job through a cold morning and into the afternoon.
These are simple tests, but they're demanding ones.
That's why research, development and field testing remain central to the Ridgeline approach. The brand continues to test clothing across different terrain and conditions, developing fabrics and garments around functional performance.
After more than three decades, that practical approach remains at the heart of Ridgeline clothing.
From New Zealand to Australia
Ridgeline's roots may be in New Zealand, but the conditions that call for dependable outdoor clothing are familiar across the Tasman.
Australia has its own extremes — from cold Southern Highlands mornings to wet forests, open farmland and rugged bush. For people who work and live outdoors, the need remains the same: clothing that can handle the conditions and keep pace with the work.
Today, Ridgeline Australia brings that heritage to a new generation of farmers, outdoor workers, hunters and country people.
The landscape may change, but the reason for making the clothing doesn't.
A Growing Reputation in the UK
The story has travelled well beyond New Zealand and Australia.
Ridgeline entered the UK market in 2007, where the brand found a natural home among farmers, gamekeepers and others who spend their working lives outdoors.
The same qualities that built Ridgeline's reputation in New Zealand — warmth, comfort, durability and functionality — have helped establish the brand in the British countryside.
More recently, that reputation has found its way onto the screen. Ridgeline clothing has been seen on Clarkson's Farm and worn by members of the Hawkstone Farmers' Choir.
It's a fitting place for Ridgeline.
The same practical outdoor clothing that started out in the New Zealand countryside more than 30 years ago is now part of everyday life for country people on the other side of the world.
Performance Clothing Since 1994
More than 30 years on, the clothing has evolved. Materials have improved, designs have changed and the range has grown.
The principle hasn't.
Ridgeline makes functional, durable outdoor clothing for people who spend their time outside.
From New Zealand to Australia and now across the UK and Europe, the brand's reputation has been built the same way it started: through clothing that works in real conditions, for people who rely on it.
Because the best test of workwear isn't how it looks on the rack.
It's how it performs when you're out in the field.
